Hi everyone! This is Brandon Choy and Zareen Tasnim, your Head Prefects for this year! We would like to take this opportunity to thoroughly introduce the new Student Leadership System. First off, as you can realise, from this year onwards, there will no longer be a Head
Boy/Girl. It has now been decided that such roles will be addressed as Head Prefects (to ensure that in future years we are electing our best representatives and are not limited by gender). Additionally, our leadership system has expanded! The new leadership system not only accounts for house captains, the student council team, wellbeing ambassadors but also includes student leaders dealing with student learning, social responsibility and even community engagement.
Community Engagement Team
Hello everybody! We are your 2021 student-leader prefects of the community engagement branch. We are responsible for the interactions within and beyond KGV. This spans from traditional activities in KGV such as alumni gatherings to activities to do with other ESF
middle and secondary schools. Our aim for 2021 is to expand our outreach, bring the student body together and most importantly to make your journey at KGV more memorable and enjoyable! The perfects for this year's community engagement team are Rachel
Yung and Kristen Kwan. Following them the students' leaders are; Dhwani Jain, Noelle Ng, Stephy Tong, Simran Hira, Harshita Parmar and Ishita Jaiswal. Currently, we plan on bringing the student body and alumni together through different events and activities. Keep your ears open in the coming few months for any news on the same!
Student Learning Team
As student learning prefects, we promise to work our best in fulfilling our role by being an attentive listener for any suggestions and work hand-in-hand with KGV students in revitalizing the school curriculum and extracurricular activities. We want to ensure that all individual students are well-supported and are given enough opportunity to further pursue their interest in learning. This year, the prefects for student learning are Jamie Kim and Michael Sun. Working with them are the student leaders Ginger Wong, Ananya Singhvi, Wilson Wu, Rishi Shah, Arthur Cheung and Kane Kim. If you have any concerns or suggestions in regards to KGV learning, feel free to contact Jamie or Michael.
Wellbeing Team
Mental health is incredibly important, especially at the transitional stage of being a high school student. As wellbeing prefects, our purpose is to make the school a more welcoming place by increasing the level of inclusivity, understanding, and empathy. We aim to encourage the student body to work together as a team so we can lift each other up as a community. The wellbeing prefects are Kyra Tang and Andy Wang. Working closely with them will be the KGV wellbeing team and ambassadors.
Social Responsibility
Hey everyone, our names are Saika Hisada and Meredith Kim, and we are delighted to be the Social Responsibility Student Prefects for 2021! We hope to work with the larger community to ensure that we are playing our part in society, especially as a group of privileged people. This entails working closely with NGOs, student groups and teachers in order to engage in social work. This year we have Tristan Wong, Che Young Lee, Timmy Qiu, Janelle Lau, Justin Wong and Joon Yang on the team. Should you have any questions or suggestions regarding social responsibility, feel free to raise them to any member of the team! Student Voice As Student Voice Prefects, we plan to establish different student voice channels such as online surveys and student-led conversations to allow students to comfortably express their opinions. By
coordinating discussions with Y7-9 representatives and liaising with the Student Council, we will strive to connect the gaps between the student body and senior leadership, making everyone’s voice heard. This year the student voice prefects are Ernest Yip and Chandni Sacheti.
House
The house prefects this year are Rathul Sukumaran and Yi Wing Yu. Working with the house captains, our role is to oversee the activities of each house, ensuring that everything is running smoothly. With COVID-19 being the main obstacle, the goal of this year is to promote house event participation while keeping students in a safe environment. We also aim to secure this new prefect system so that future house captains and prefects will be able function together smoothly in our large team.
